Parthenium Week Celebrated in NICRA Villages

Parthenium week was celebrated in Affaur and Darihara villages of Saran district of Bihar under the banner of "National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture.The inaugural function was chaired by the Honourable Member of Bihar Legislative Assembly ShriJitendra Kumar Ray of Marhaura constituency. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ray told that this is an excellent effort by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and the Central Research Institute on Dry land Agriculture, Hyderabad that under such acute climatic vulnerability of drought, farmers are able to get good agricultural yield. The Natural resource Management activities are very much appreciable both in terms of yield enhancement and conservation of natural resources. A capacity building programme was also organized in which farmers were imparted training on management of Partrhenium through lectures and also through film shows developed by Directorate of Weed Science Research, Jabalpur. The NICRA farmers and voluntary groups then participated in cleanliness camp of parthenium by uprooting, cutting and grading of parthenium plants. The plants having matured flowers were burnt and the immature plants were deposited in the vermicompost beds for compost preparation. On the closing ceremony, Dr. A.K. Singh, Honourable Zonal Project Director of Zone II, ICAR, Kolkata and Dr. J.P. Upadhyaya, Honourable Director Extension Education of Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar released Zygogrammabicolorata on parthenium supplied by Dr. A. R. Sharma, Director, DWSR, Jabalpur.
